Swift is operated by Lavalite Tech Solutions (PTY) LTD. This policy explains what personal information we collect when you use the Swift website, apps, and shuttle services, why we collect it, and the choices you have. It applies to riders, drivers, and anyone who submits a shuttle request or contact form with us.
What we collect
We collect information you give us directly, and some information generated by using the service:
- Account details: name, email address, phone number, and password.
- Trip information: pickup and drop-off locations, requested times, fare estimates, and trip history.
- Location data: live location while a trip is active, so a driver can reach you and your trip can be tracked.
- Payment information: processed through our payment partners (PayFast and Ozow) — Swift does not store your full card or bank details.
- Driver-partner information: for driver applicants, this includes identity documents, driving licence and PDP details, vehicle information, and any documents submitted for vetting.
- Communications: messages sent through our contact form, and any correspondence with our support team.
- Device and usage data: basic technical information such as device type and app version, used to keep the service running reliably.
How we use it
- To match your shuttle request with an available driver and complete your trip.
- To calculate and process fares, discounts, and driver commission.
- To verify driver-partner applications and maintain our vetting standards.
- To send trip confirmations, status updates, and service notices.
- To respond to support requests submitted through our contact form.
- To investigate safety reports, complaints, or suspected misuse of the platform.
- To meet our legal obligations, including under tax and consumer protection law.
Who we share it with
We share personal information only where it's necessary to run the service:
- Drivers and riders, with each other — limited to what's needed for a trip, such as name, pickup point, and contact number.
- Payment processors (PayFast, Ozow) to complete transactions.
- Service providers who host our systems or send notifications on our behalf, under confidentiality obligations.
- Law enforcement or regulators, where we're legally required to, or where necessary to protect the safety of a rider, driver, or the public.
We do not sell personal information to third parties.
Children's information
Student cab bookings
Our student cab service is booked and paid for by a parent, guardian, or school — not directly by a minor. Where a booking involves a learner or student under 18, we collect only the minimum information needed to complete the trip safely (name, pickup/drop-off point, and a responsible adult's contact details). See our child safety standards for more on how we protect minors using our services.
Retention & security
We keep personal information only for as long as it's needed for the purposes described here, or as required by law — for example, financial records are retained in line with SARS record-keeping requirements. We use reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your information against loss, unauthorised access, and misuse, in line with POPIA's security safeguard requirements.
Your rights
Under POPIA, you have the right to:
- Ask us what personal information we hold about you, and request a copy.
- Ask us to correct information that's inaccurate or out of date.
- Ask us to delete information we no longer have a lawful reason to keep.
- Object to certain uses of your information, including direct marketing.
- Lodge a complaint with South Africa's Information Regulator if you believe we've handled your information unlawfully.
